The Atyopsis gabonensis is very very shy. In the shop, they are usually on top of one
another in a far corner of their tank.
The two in my bigger tank have disappeared and the
one in the small tank is always in hiding. Once, I found him caught, in the morning, behind the thermostat
heater. He had apparently been active in the dark of night, and tried to find himself a cosy place
behind the heater, getting himself stuck. I released him and he dropped, scuttling towards a piece of
hardwood, quickly digging away some sand and gone he was.
